About Us
What's Our Story
We began many years ago in Goa 2007 with a desire to support individuals to deepen their understanding and practice of yoga and pass on the skills and tools to teach. Since that time we are have been wholeheartedly and passionately supporting individuals to integrate yoga into their lives.
We feel Tribe is a special and magical place to study and practice yoga. We see the potential to evolve and flow more effortlessly through life with less resistance, greater acceptance, and a blossoming trust. We encourage an attitude and approach of openness, connection, acceptance, sensitivity, awareness, and love. Our intention is to create a special and unique journey of self-study,
Pranayama
At Tribe traditional yogic text are very important to us. The Patanjali yoga sutras and the 8 limbs of Ashtanga therein is truly our yoga bible. As yoga practitioners, we are passionate about the transformation process that the 8 limbs of Ashtanga offers us and get excited about the yamas and niyamas, which all the Tribe teachers aspire to embody in their practice, their teaching and their daily living. As much as possible we honour the traditional teachings of yoga and bring them into a modern context through a contemporary understanding that makes the meaning and essence of the teachings more easily digestible and applicable to the world we live in today. At Tribe we feel the message behind all integral teachings are one of liberation through surrender, love and connection. As we address our day-to-day words, thoughts and actions the teachings support us to become more mindful, sensitive, aware and present. of yoga.
Asana
On a spiritual level asanas give us an opportunity to fine-tune our awareness and sensitivity so we can become more intimate with the subtlest depths of our being. As we Here at Tribe we have absolutely no bias to any particular style of yoga asana. No matter how dynamic or gentle in style, we look to the quality of attention and awareness, the application of sensitivity, honesty, openness, generosity, and focus to define a practice as yoga. All Tribe students receive the confidence and understanding it takes to journey towards one’s inner wisdom and truth. Here you learn to tune into your individual needs, limitations, and possibilities so your yoga practice becomes more and more unique, reflecting and expressing your individuality on a day-to-day basis. We wholeheartedly encourage students to flow in their own style and honor their natural rhythm by teaching the basic fundamentals of practice which, once understood, can be applied to all styles of asana.
Pranayama
Pranayama techniques offer different ways to direct the breath and balance the pranic flows (life force/energy) within us. Ultimately the aim of the techniques are to release the breath from its usual restrictions thus allowing the practitioner to enter into a state of true Pranayama where the duality of the breath is transcended and prana begins to flows harmoniously.
There are many simple to complex techniques which can be practiced within asana or as an independent practice to bring about positive and beneficial results. Calming the mind, soothing the nerves, releasing tension/anxieties and initiating into deep states of relaxation and meditation are all made possible through the practice of pranayamas.
Pranayama techniques have the potential to bring harmony into all levels of our being eventually balancing the flow of prana flowing through the major energy channels inside us.
Meditation
There are many meditation styles and techniques that help bring clarity, calmness and focus to the restless mind. Such techniques help us to settle the fluctuating mind and cultivate more clarity and focus. Once you are able to maintain a concentrated mind the doors to higher states of consciousness may begin to open initiating a natural unfolding of the mind whereby the more subtle stages of meditation reveal themselves. Through meditation, we tap into an ever-present inner wisdom and truth, our perspective changes until eventually, through the light of our expanding awareness, the sense of separate self dissolves away. At Tribe we offer a variety of meditation techniques to suit all types including classical sitting meditations and dynamic meditations, so you can find the practice that suits you best.

Most Frequently Asked Questions
Will it be a 'Spiritual' training ?
Tribe teachers are known for their spiritual understandings and approach to yoga practice and life. We will be studying positive and powerful yoga teachings and seeing how we can apply them to our practice and into our daily living. We aim to direct your attention and awareness to the subtleties of your being with teachings that are designed to connect you with your true nature, transcending the physical and merging into ‘the oneness’ that is our very existence. Many students come to the training with a purely physical practice and interest in yoga and find their approach completely transformed as they discover that the training is as much a spiritual journey as a practical one with many different yogic.
How much experience do I need?
We like to think of the training as a yoga journey suitable for anyone who has a keen interest to learn something new about themselves and advance their understanding and current experience of yoga. We encourage everybody to do what they can to the best of their ability… at the end of the day its less about ‘what you do’ and more about ‘how you do’ that transforms an action into yoga! One of the important things to consider is that the training is very challenging so its necessary that everybody who attends is healthy and physically fit with no serious medical conditions (physical or mental). We find it difficult to asses the level of practice that people have through the application. Someone who has been practising everyday for 6 months with an experienced teacher could be at a similar level of practice as someone who has been practice for 3 years a couple of times a week in a gym! So we invite all levels, beginners to advanced to join us. We hope to bring together people who want to discover something new about themselves and who have an interest to contribute to the growing global yoga community. The training is a chance to set the foundation for a more yogic way of living and Being.
What style of yoga will I be trained to teach? Will I get a recognised certificate?
Your teaching should be a reflection of your own self practice (which we help trainees to develop) so if you are a dedicated Ashtanga yogi you will probably stick to teaching the primary series however many of the trainees like to be more creative and individual in their practice and this is evident in how and what they teach at the end of the training.
We encourage students to use the modified primary series as the basis for sequencing however in the later half of the training you can begin to introduce alternative sequencing and postures.
What will the Asana classes be like?
Asana classes are taught through instructions that are focused on leading the students into a deeper awareness and sensitivity so they can more easily feel and recognise what’s going on inside their bodies ….not just physically! We feel that awareness is the fertile ground for transformation and the real essence of yoga lies in the subtleties of sensations in the body, breath, and mind.
Tribes approach to teaching asana is one of clear and effective instructions that empowers the students and offers a more beneficial and deeper asana practice. Based on the dynamic yoga method the instructions you receive to guide you through the form of the asanas will also connect you with the dynamics of the foundation, breath, bandhas and the core.
Will we study Ashtanga? Will there be any Mysore classes?
It depends what one understands by Ashtanga. Everybody has different ideas!
The Tribe trainings maintain an emphasis on the eight limbs of Ashtanga yoga defined in the yoga sutras by Patanjali which presents us with a journey of personal growth and spiritual development.
In regards to asana practice our teachers are trained in Many different styles of yoga and this is the flavour of the classes that you will have on any TTC with us.
